• Before jumping on the road with his dad for Willie Nelson's Country Throwdown Tour, Lukas Nelson chatted with Yallwire's Stephanie Langston the story behind his music, the band's name and his promise to be real to to his fans.

Finding himself on stage with legends like Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, William Jennings and, of course, his father Willie Nelson, Lukas admits that it was his destiny to be playing music and believes that "everything is meant to be."

Although he happens to be the son of country icon Willie Nelson, Lukas seems to be one of the most humble, grateful and down-to-earth guys around. When he decided to drop out of college, the country rocker graciously turned down the financial help his family offered because "I wanted to experience what life was like without anything and just see how I could live that way."

Inspired by books like Siddhartha and established in his gypsy-like lifestyle, Lukas goes on to say that he "understands the fickle nature of life and money. Happiness comes from within, so I needed to go on my own journey to discover that and really feel it so that when I gave back, [I could give in the right way and give from my heart]."

Already an accomplished opener for big artists like BB King, Dave Matthews Band and The Meat Puppets, Lukas reveals a list of of legends he'd love to play with, such as Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Roger Waters and Pearl Jam. His debut album was released in December, which features a few of his family members.
