His years of research and hard work paid off in 2003. Smith was recording recording his first single
"Thank You: Tribute to the American Soldier" at the
Parlor Recording Studio, owned by industry veteran
Sheridan Ruddy. Smith and Ruddy struck up a conversation; impressed by his passion and potential, Ruddy offered Daniel a recording contract. With the help of Ruddy, Daniel released his first album
American Made on
Parlor Records in 2005. Standout tracks from the album include the candid
"What U See is What U Get" and soulful track
"I’m Going Home".
